The Cool Kids

Image
O.k, I'm going to try to explain this as clearly as possible without getting anybody all riled up. This outfit I'm wearing today? Well, I kind of feel like one of the cool kids. You know... the ones NOT wearing anything of color. There's nothing girly, feminine about it either. Isn't that on trend right now? Well, if you follow my blog and read up on my outfits, I'm not really one for trends. I prefer to dress how I feel that day and most days it involves bright colors, and girly dresses.  I assume that's why you keep visiting me, no? Today I was trying to be more casual and wanted a reason to wear these new boots. You know the saying the grass is always greener on the other side? That's how I feel when I dress like this. There's nothing particularly wrong with this look, I even got a few compliments from strangers today, (including a cute boy working at Trader Joes) but half way through the day I find myself thinking, I wish I was wearing a dress (or sk

FAQ's

Describe your personal style. Oh boy, this is hard. Girly, romantic, with a touch of vintage inspiration. When do you take your pictures? I take my pictures in the morning right before heading out the door. This is when my makeup is at it freshess and my hair is still ruly. Besides, by the time I get home it's dark outside. Why is your blog title french? I'm french Canadian, grew up in a french household and went to french schools growing up. It wasn't until college that I switched over to English. The transition was hard especially writting essays but I've been biligual my whole life so it wasn't that foreign to me. What does your blog title mean?  My blog name means: "Bright Idea" or "Brilliant Idea" in french. I'm not sure how I came up with it. One day when I was signing up to chictopia it just came to mind....kind of like a bright idea.....haha. What kind of camera do you use? I use a Nikon D60 for all of my pictures. I take them myself

La fille derrière le blog

My name is Melanie Sonier. I'm 29 years young. I'm a virgo, born on 09/09. I was raised on the East coast, in Ottawa, ON but at the tender age of ten, I knew I'd be living in Vancouver. Then, ten years later I find myself on the West Coast, loving life and figuring out who I truly am. Ten years after that I'm in New York with a new outlook on life. It's been a whirlwind but i can't stop now. I'm an overly independant lady who has a hard time asking for help. I'm full of ideas but need the push to actually fulfill them. I can certainly dish it out but I have a hard time taking it. I don't have many close friends but really treasure the friendships I have. I like to knit, crochet and do crafts and would love to do it full time if I could. That said, I work in Fashion and right now, I'm loving that too. I live in New York, but I'd move to a middle of nowhere place if it meant spending it with my own little family. I won't settle for less bec

2 for 1 outfit

I always run into this problem in the fall/winter and I'd like to know if anyone else has this similar issue. See, I have alot of long cardigans that I love layering my outfits with, but once I'm out the door I tend to have a shorter jacket and that leaves my cardigan hanging out the bottom. Perfect example today, I have this super cute bunny cardigan from kensiegirl (yes, those are bunnies!) but then as soon as I put on my jacket, I felt it looked a little funny having it so much longer. My solution was to take the cardigan off, stuff it in my bag, then wear my jacket and change at work. Kind of a pain, but what else can I do? The weather isn't cold enough yet to break out the longer coats. So this explains to two sets of pictures taken this morning. The first with my cardigan, then the second with my jacket sans cardigan. I also want to let all my new readers know about my very first giveaway that's currently going on. You can read about it here . You have until Frid

Tiny Moons

Image
I was inspired by yesterday's vintage shopping trip when I was creating today's outfit. It's all either thrifted or vintage and I  think if I would add it all up, the whole thing would be around $40! The skirt I bought yesterday as well as the boots; the top was one of my Vancouver Value Village finds and the belt, well, that's been in my closet forever, I might've snatched it up at Beacon's Closet a while ago. I wanted to make sure to take a close-up pic of the skirt as it has these tiny little multi-colored moons as the print! How adorable is that?! I know some of you are wondering what my Halloween costume is (see previous post) but I'm not telling!! In fact, i'm thinking up how I can turn this into some little contest. So just bear with me for a little bit longer and I will surely let you know when I've decided how to go about this. I still have alot of sewing to do and searching for a few more items to complete the outfit, but that is why I sta

Drowning in Vintage

Image
Yesterday was my Halloween costume shopping with Pamela (from Market Publique ) day. Nickie and I met her in Williamsburg where we proceeded to hit up what seemed like every vintage store possible. Of course we couldn't do them all as Williamsburg is the mecca of vintage shopping but we sure made a dent. Even though I was concentrated on only shopping for my halloween costume, I managed to buy 2 pairs of boots and a skirt (which I bargained down to $10 from $20). Oh and I did find some items for my costume, now I have the tedious task of putting it all together. My outfit consisted of so many layers that I didn't even need a jacket. I was excited that the weather was a crisp 65 degrees and sunny, the perfect Satuday shopping weather if you ask me. My hair was inspired by some of my fave bloggers trying out the Alexander Wang SS09 ( i think?) side braid. Of course my hair isn't as long as say, Delightfully Tacky's so I had to enlist the help of a few clip-in extensions.

This outfit was built around my new shoes! I love them so much even though they look a little granny-ish. Well, I guess you could say that that's right up my alley.  I think they'll go great with many vintage dresses currently hanging in my closet as well, so I'm sure they'll be making some appearances in future posts! Today I'm going for a Fall theme. Trying to keep it neutral after all the color I've worn this week. I figure sometime's I need to tone it down. Hope you can appreciate that even though I'm known for my colorful wardrobe. Well thank you to everyone who's entered the giveaway so far(see below post)!! I'm happy to see that my little knitty things are in demand. I need to start knitting alot more as today's weather is definitely knit hat weather. Anyways, good luck to you all and i'm excited to find out who's the lucky person next Saturday! You've seen these items here before: Have a good weekend everyone. Outfit: Pant

One Hundred Thank yous= Giveaway!!!

You know in my last post when I said that I've been knitting away and that you'd soon find out what exactly that was?? Well, now is the time! I decided to do something special and have my very own giveaway once I reached 100 followers. Well, it was creeping pretty quickly last week and I just decided this over the weekend so I 've been busy preparing for this day. Thank god it was steady at 99 for the last few days or I would've never finished on time or had the pictures to post! So here's whats up for grabs: The first is a purple knit bow that is fastened to a hair clip. And the other is a cable knit headband both made by moi. Both will go to one lucky reader! So here's what you have to do (i'm keeping this really easy) 1. Leave me a comment in this post saying that your interested in the giveaway! 2. Double your chances by mentioning this in one of your blog posts and let me know that you did. 3. Contest will end next Friday October 2nd . I will draw a na

I know I haven't really been going into details of my life in my recent posts and that's basically just a time issue. After going through picnik to upload and make my pictures "prettier" I just want to post them and go to bed. So I decided to let you all know what I've been up to recently: Last night I randomly woke up at 4am and could not get back to sleep. So I checked some emails only to find out that photobucket has yet again disabled my account!AGGGGHHHHHH!! I'm so fed up with this site that I will proceed to switch over all of my photobucket posts to be regular blogspot pictures. So if you're new to my blog and peeking at my archives, please check back by Saturday as I'll most likely have it all done by then. After sending out a few emails (including a nasty one to photobucket) I went back to sleep until about 6:30am since I decided that this morning would be the first of my morning runs. Yes, that's right, not only do I wake up and take my o

I don't have that much to talk about today. I've been busy the last few nights completing a few little projects. I think you might be seeing one very soon, like in the next day or so. Stay tuned. This outfit was my comfty, can't think too hard as to what to put together today. I started with the printed tank than thought about layering on a cardigan only to hear that it was 80 degrees and humid (what?? I thought we were past that crazy weather??!) so I grabbed a lighter-weight pinstripe grey shirt instead. I threw the boots on because they were calling for rain...and well, it is September isn't it? Officially Fall. Outfit: Skirt}Kensie Top}Forever 21 Shirt}Forever 21 Belt}vintage
