Le Geek, c'est chic!

Image
(featured item: 60's olive green crop wool jacket  ) I was planning on doing a super mega update post but after spending half of my time uploading and cropping and "prettyfying" my pictures, I barely have enough energy to write. I'm working off of 4 hours sleep here and 2 flights in two days and a full work day. Good thing I have these pre-outfit shots to post or else you'd be seeing me in the hotel provided bathrobe i'm curently sporting. Thank god.... Another great thing (aside from plush hotel bathrobes) is that the hotel I'm staying at has free internet so I can blog to my hearts content! Maybe I'll even have a current outfit post for you tomorrow!! Spending the last week with friends and family and now this week with coworkers, I''ve been getting alot of: So you're doing : "insert random event or outing here. I saw your blog." I can't help but cringe, or wait, maybe it's more of a embarrassed (but not really) feeling?

A feminine structure

(featured item: 80's gray Emmanuelle Khanh wool jacket ) I'm posting this in a rush as I'm sitting in the airport's Porter lounge on a very short layover from Ottawa to New York. This lounge is amazingly new and offers free wifi, drinks and snacks. Luckily I've had my laptop with me and am able to make a quick post before hoping on the plane. The reason why I want to get this posted now is to allow myself time to unpack and re-packs, eat and then get to bed as soon as I get home as I leave tomorrow for a 7am flight to Vancouver. This jacket is the epitome of well strcutured garments. The details and seams that make this jacket so amazing are so well tailored I was instantly attracted to it. I paired it with my obi belt to add a little waist definition and a fitted skirt to balance the bold shoulders. I absolutely love how girly yet strong and simple this piece is. Timeless Pendleton

Image
(featured item: 60's Plaid Wool Pendleton jacket ) So I made it Canada safe and sound and have been spending quality time with the family. I've already made a trip to the local Value Village, where I stocked up on a few (4 pairs) of shoes, 2 skirts, and a few dresses. They're currently either hanging to dry, or on their way to the dry cleaners so that I can wear them as soon as I get back. As I've mentioned before, my outfits that I've been posting while I'm away have all been pre-shot using pieces from Dusty Rose Vintage . This is one of my favorites, probably because its so fitting for this season. This jacket is gorgeous and belting it made look fitted (I loved the little duck belt). These wool shorts could basically be paired with anything (see previous post). It's too bad they were one size too small or I wouldn't have let them go! Time for breakfast, and then a little more thrift store shopping! Outfit: Jacket} Vintage Pendleton, buy it here Short

All dressed up.

(featured item: 60's mod black lace evening top ) If I was actually going to be celebrating Thanksgiving (which btw has already passed in Canada) I'd probably plan to get a little dressed up. Probably, go for something like this little number. A cute lace top with a nude lining and a pair of flouncy shorts (yes, those are shorts!). I'm set to leave for Canada in a little bit and quite excited (as you can tell since it's all I've talked about this week). I swear I'll have more interesting things to talk about later on in the week, like thrift store purchases, loving being back in Canada, not having to cook for myself (right dad?)..etc... Proud to be a Dusty Rose

For the past few weeks I've been working on a little collaboration with the online shop Dusty Rose Vintage . I've been a fan of theirs ever since I spotted them on chictopia and was happy to find out that they're based right here in Brooklyn! I met up with Renae, one half of the company, at their Williamsburg studio to basically play dress up. Racks upon racks of vintage clothing at my disposal to take home and style up to my liking. Who wouldn't want that?  Since I'm not that thrilled about what i was wearing today, I'm posting one of the outfits I put together using an item from their shop which you can findon Etsy . So if you like the item, you get the chance to actually buy it! I've included the links below. (featured item: 50's school girl crop sweater ) I grabbed this sweater because..well...it's cropped and for some reason I love buying crop tops and never wearing them. Honestly. I think I've acquired 5 this past summer and wore 2 of them

The cat, the blogger and the tripod.

See what I was trying to reference with today's title? The lion, the witch and the wardrobe anyone?? I had a little audience for today's photoshoot. Its not the first time I discover this little kitty in my yard. I think he belongs to the nieighbors but I guess I'm just that much more entertaining. Not much to blog about today, I'm really looking forward to my Ottawa trip on Wednesday. Did I also mention that I'll be in Vancouver next Monday? That's right 2 Canada trips within the span of 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to both actually. I think its just this time a year when I get a little antsy and need a change of scenery. This time last year I was on my way to Paris! O.k, I know Ottawa is NOT Paris. As for my outfit; what do we have here? another kensie dress?? surprise surprise. You know I think this sudden surge of kensie clothing infiltrating my wadrobe is due to the fact that I'm cutting back on shopping and am trying to find stuff I already own and

Winner! kensie Goodies giveaway

Congratulations to JillieBeanie from Spoils of Wear!  She has won the tote bag filled with the kensie swag. Thank you to everybody that entered. I really do wish that I could give everyone one of my readers something back. I really appreciate all of your support. Oh and Idée Géniale got a makeover last night. Do we like the new look? Chris created my new header and I'm absolutely in love with it. There might be some little tweaks here in there in the next couple of days, like playing around with the colors but I thought it was high time we see some change around here.

You'll find salvation at the end of the track

Walking back to the subway station after the swap, we spotted these train tracks that were no longer in use. Naturally, Nickie and I, both took out our cameras and started snapping away. I love finding new locations to take my pictures; if only I was more adventurous to take out my tripod on the regular and use the nyc backdrops at my disposal. One day. Outfit: Dress}kensiegirl, also worn here Top}Vintage Boots}Dexter vintage Socks}Target Now about the swap. From the looks of it, the turn out was pretty good. The was a line up coming in and even around 5pm when we were leaving, the line was even longer. There was clothing, music, books, shoes, and even a rather odd little corner with boxes full of panties, scaves, and belts, odds and ends. Now, I'm not sure if you've ever been to a swap but the basis is: grab, then look. So as I grabbed away at anything that caught my eye, I barely had the time to look if it was even my size. Now that I'm home, I realize that the size 11/12

Yesterday, catch-up. Today, swap.

Image
This is what I wore yesterday. I only took the pics last night after getting home from work and then had to get some stuff in order, then run right back out to go meet up with Nickie for some drinks. I read that there was a new bar in the neighborhood that served hot mulled cider (with your choice of rum or whiskey) so Nickie and I went to check it out. Turned out to be a really great place with great service and good atmosphere. We found two seats at the bar and proceeded to fill each other in with the last two weeks of our lives. We usually spend every weekend together but due to unforseen circumstances we've had some time away from each other. At the end of the night we pretty much deemed it our new winter hangout. Now if you'll excuse me, my coffee is ready and I have a few things planned for my day that I would need to get started on. I'm heading over to the Score! Pop up swap this afternoon and want to make sure I go through everything in my apartment and get rid of

Remember when I listed 7 random facts about me? And number 3 was that I was a dork? Well, this post title just proves it. Everytime I start a post I come up with the cheesiest titles for them and most days I hold myself back before hitting "publish post" and quickly change it. Today wasn't one of those days. Comfort to me equals leggings. But then, leggings equals frumpy. So how do I manage to leave the house in leggings? Lace! I was so happy that kensiegirl was making these printed lace leggings, that I quickly snatched up a pair. I think they might even get remixed in this blog since i've already thought of a few different ways to wear them. Today's comfy look is due to sleeping in (which I've been doing alot) and not having time to get into my usual routine. Plus, I'm trying to avoid washing my hair since my blowdryer is on the fritz and could possibly blow up at any moment, well that's what it sounds like anyways. I think it's time for me to ta

party pics!

As mentioned in earlier posts, last night I attended the kensie party at Velour nightclub here in NYC. While I was rushed to get all of my work completed by 6pm, change into a party dress and then hail a cab nyc style to the party, I think I was able to make myself look half decent. Here are some pictures I took of some stylish ladies (and myself). (I went with a kensiegirl dress & kensie faux fur vest) (Fellow coworkers) (Nickie from Wild as a Mink  wearing a vintage dress) (Girls from Hpnotiq , the liquor sponsor of the night) (Nickie and I) (Elizabeth, wearing a dress from kensie dresses's line and chinese laundry boots) (The bar staff wearing kensie) (A stylish kensie fan wearing kensie) (Behind the bar kensie video playing on the big screen) Thank you to all who've already entered the kensie giveaway! You still have until Sunday night to enter. Please go here and leave a comment to enter.
