Ladies who brunch & eat sweet treats

Image
More outfit pictures taken indoors, but this time it was due to a time constraint for than a weather issue. Yesterday I woke up early-ish to go meet some friends for brunch at Essex restaurant in the LES. Unfortunately, Nickie couldn't make it which I feel really bad about since she chose the place. (Hope your feeling better!!) Now I must say, one of the great things about NYC the availability of the Bloody Mary (yum) cocktail. You see, the Canadian equivalent to this is a Ceasar which is made with Clamato juice (tomato+clam juice= Clamato) which being vegan, I find it pretty gross. But here in the good ol' U S of A, I can find Tomato juice stocked it basically any bar. Even better when they're offered at all you can drink brunches! Where was I? Oh yes, after brunch we headed over to Babycakes (i've mentioned them before) to grab some vegan baked treats, I chose a cinnamon sugar donut, and a pink lemonade cupcake...oh alright, and a couple of chocolate chip cookies!

Shop my closet update

Image
Well, I finally took a night to myself and got so much accomplished. First thing I wanted to do was clean up my apartment and sort through some clothing to put up for sale. Yesterday while searching for my white dress I realized that I have a whole bunch of Spring/Summer clothes tucked away in storage. This happens to me every year and yet I keep forgetting about the changeover. So anyway, once I go through those suitcases of clothes, you can expect another update. But for now, here are just a few items: 1. Volcom tweed dropwaist dress 2. Kensiegirl french terry jacket 3. Vintage velvet jacket 4. Vintage printed blouse All can be found at: http://www.shopideegeniale.blogspot.com/ ps: I'm working on having an outfit post and a hair post (tutorial) up for tomorrow.

The Striped skirt

Image
The way this outfit came about is kind of a long story. I'll try to make it short. You know when you come across an outfit either in a magazine or more often at times, a blog and say: "Oh, I can totally do that, but I just need this one piece to make it complete". And you don't really want to go out searching for said missing piece or try to and just can't find it? Well, that's what happened when I came across this picture from the lovely Naomi of Rockstar diaries . I already had the dress, now all I needed was a striped skirt. I did not feel or even have time to start scouring F21, H&M, etc.. for a striped skirt to add to my wardrobe. And that is when the Delightful Dozen gods came to my rescue. A couple of days after discovering this picture, Elizabeth   put up her striped skirt for swaps! I NEEDED that skirt! It finally arrived on Thursday and since today was a snow day I had the time to put together this style chain outfit that I've been waiting

What to Wear...running errands

Image
Welcome to round two of the  "What to Wear" series. For round one I did What to Wear...to the office. You can check it out here . This time, I wanted to show some outfits that I think are totally appropriate for running errands and running about when those busy days strike us. I had these saved in a folder titled, Errands, in no particular order. As I was trying to pick out the key items that I thought would work for such a task, the was definitely a trend that became apparent in all pictures. Here's the recipe for a fool proof outfit while running errands: 1. Hat : Because you've got alot to do and can't waste it on your hair. 2. Jeans : Yes, not everyone has been boycotting pants. 3. Cross shoulder bag/totes : Because being hands free is so much easier, especially when lugging groceries home. 4. Flats/loafers : Maneuverability is easiest when you don't have to worry about each step. And here are the outfits that inspired me: Photo credits (from top left): 1.

Lacey Brown Hairstyle

Image
Credit: Michael Becker/FOX Lacey Brown, I love the look, soulfoul voice, she's cute and I love her hair too . Her rendition of "What a Wonderful World" from Hollywood round was great and very endearing and what a great attitude about not getting through last year. I really liked Megan Joy (who got thru instead of her) but Megan didn't quite deliver although she was good. I'm glad Lacey was given another chance this week. Some people say her hairstyle is called "The Suspicious Duchess". Must Watch - What A Wonderful World Lacey Brown - Somewhere Over the Rainbow Audition

A Step Inside

Image
Well, it finally happened. I've been defeated by this nasty weather we've been having. I woke up to snowflakes as big as fists and puddles that would swallow my shoe. Mother Nature 1: Blogger 0.                         You could say that this is the most weather innapropriate outfit I've ever worn. But you know when you have a plan to wear something and then nothing else will do? That's what happened to me this morning. I wanted to wear this outfit on Wednesday but couldn't find my slip to wear under it, so I grabbed a repeat dress instead. So last night when I came home I searched high and low through piles of clothing and finally found it. After that I was determined to wear this Spring forward outfit, there was no question. I actually already have a dozen ideas on how to wear this dress when the weather gets warmer, just a warning. Remember when I was talking about my resolutions? Well don't think that I've been slacking off (completely). I've kept up

No Bumpit necessary

Image
A co-worker asked me today if I was wearing a Bumpit . I didn't know if I should take it as an insult or a compliment? Meaning that I did such a good job that it looks like I enlisted the help of a half moon device to recreate this mini bouffant? In any case, this hairstyle is best when done on semi-dirty hair which was perfect considering I chose a few extra minutes of sleeping in instead of washing my hair this morning. Just a little dry shampoo and some teasing and voila, a bumpit wannabe hairstyle. My dress is the same one that I wore at the Aquarium . I'm happy to have gotten better pictures of it here and properly styled up. It's very reminiscent of the 60's and maybe that's where the whole bouffant look came from. I added some vintage touches like my shoes and handbag. I really wish I could've forgone the tights but alas, its way to early to even start thinking about that. It's Raining?

Image
I have alot to say about this outfit today so please, just bear with me... I'm quite surprised at how these pictures turned out considering it was raining a little when I was snapping away. I came out geared with my camera wrapped in a plastic bag with only the lens visible. I thought they'd be all grey or gloomy. Oh how we bloggers sacrifice... First of all, I am not going to take credit for this outfit. While browsing through an old (ish) People magazine yesterday I saw a picture of the most adorable Carey Mulligan and beau Shia and she was dressed just like this. She even had a headband on. I thought to myself, wow, she looks so comfty! I was jealous and wanted to recreate the look asap. So that's where this outfit was created.                                                                          Now I thought to myself, I can't go into work (more like, Manhattan) looking like this, too casual and shleppy. That' where the accessories come in. I usually just st

Color Confidential

Image
Today was your typical Monday for me. I woke up groggy from a deep sleep, got ready, walked up the street only to have forgotten a bag of stuff I had to mail out, rushed back home to get it and so on... I had two coffees, but the second one wasn't good so its kind of still sitting on my desk at work. Gross right? Well, that's o.k. I was so busy getting stuff organized and mailing out some special little packages to some very great readers and friends that I had barely enough time to concentrate on cleaning up my work space. Lets just say I'm happy that tomorrow is Tuesday. I've been hesitant to put bright outfits together in fear of looking too young. Maybe it's the constant meeting of ladies my age in New York, clad in all black attire and sky scraper heels that makes me feel this way or maybe I'm just feeling old? Well today was my attempt at putting together something with color and keeping to my age. (Well, you can just keep on guessing at what exactly that

Just hanging around

Image
I feel like an eclectic old lady in this outfit. You'd think I'd have a dozen cats hanging off me, right? Since I wasn't really up to much on Sunday I thought that comfort was key. I started my day with a trip to the hairsalon. I just got more layers and a trim so I can finally see and my fringe isn't in my face. I'm still thinking about going red but that's too much of a commitment right now. More pondering on that subject. When I got home it was more "me" time. Finishe dup all the projects I posted earlier, took some pictures, knitted a little more, dishes, cleaning out the closet. You know, the Sunday stuff. I wore these leggings two days in a row. Don't judge me, I just couldn't resist! This cozy cardigan was bought last weekend on my Beacon's Closet shopping trip with Christina. It's so very 80"s, the only thing missing from it are shoulder pads. But hey, the taupe color and slouchy fit will be perfect come spring time weather

What's new with you?

Image
I know these past few weeks I've been talking about nothing else than how busy I've been. I think it's mostly because I've never ever been this busy in my life. I've always managed to have enough "me" time scheduled in order to keep me sane. I think when we hit 2010, all of that changed. It has been good in a way but I still need to come to a balance of work and down time. But now I feel a little sigh of relief since I've accomplished a few things over the weekend and can start feeling a little normal. I've updated my Etsy with a bunch of new things. A turban style headband! I wanted something that would replicate the look of a turban without actually being one. I came up with this super wide nubbly knit headband in three different colors. They're super comfty and warm, and might I add stylish? You can pick one up here . Amigurumi animals I've posted three different animals. A monkey, an elephant and an owl. All three are keeping within th

A jean day

Image
Just a quick post to show you what I wore on Friday. It was a jeans and t-shirt kind of day but a dressed it up with a new cardigan and printed scarf. After work I headed out to Babycakes for my fill of cookie & cream sandwishes and brownie cupcakes...all vegan of course! Good thing this place isn't anywhere near Brooklyn or else I'd be in big trouble. Today I'm off to attempt to find a skating rink. Maybe all this Olympic talk has got me inspired? I'm just happy that the sun is finally shining! Outfit: Cardigan}Heritage 1981 from F21 Jeans}Cheap Monday Scarf}Vintage via Value Village Boots}Vintage Belt}Vintage
