Best of's for 2009 pt.4- dresses

Image
The hardest feature out of all of them as I have made it a conscious effort to add more dresses to my wardrobe this year. It's so tough to only choose five out of what seems like a million dresses. These we're some that stood out this year and others that just seem like they've been in my wardrobe forever ans need a mention. Not Katy Perry dress} Kensie I love playing dress up and this dress lets me do just that. Vintage Inspiration Dress}Vintage via Beacon's Closet The time I won the Modcloth/chictopia contest . Nautical one dress}kensiegirl Hands down one of my most favorite outfits in all. BK Vintage Dress} Vintage via Flea Market My first purchase in Brooklyn! It took alot of work hemming and cutting but I finally got it perfectly. The Blues dres}Lux Urban Outfitters A more casual dress for layering or just on its own. Best of's for 2009 pt.3- shorts/rompers

12:06am, yikes! I was hoping to get two posts done per day but looks like I've missed it by 6 minutes...or however minutes it is until I'm finally done pressing the "publish" button. In any case, before this blog, I never really thought that I wore that many shorts. Actually my thighs aren't at all to my liking and when I go to the gym ( I try) I usually spend more time on the stationary bike, and on the weird thigh strengthening contraptions...kind of like Susanne Summer's thighmaster. Well going through my fave outfits of 2009, I feel like shorts and rompers are definitely making themselves comfortable amongst my dresses and skirts...so here they are. It began Romper}Brooklyn Industries via Beacon's Closet I know this might not be a crazy cool outfit but on this particular day I met Nickie for the first time. After this meeting we we're inseperable all Summer long. Me? Icon? Shorts} kensiegirl This was August 1st. I became a style icon on chictopia,

I haven't worn my hair straight in a while. I feel like I look different today, maybe? Well another casual layered look today since I'm still in holiday mode even though I've been working these past two days. I think next week is going to be a hard one since everything will be back to its usual schedule. Today I had the pleasure of meeting a fellow blogger, Sara from The Ocean in your bedroom . She's in NYC for NYE so I thought what a great opportunity to meet up and grab a coffee. Oh and not only is she another blogger but she's also from Canada! Hopefully we'll get together again over the weekend and do a little bit of shopping. Since I'm a big fan of remixing my wardrobe, I thought it'd be fun to see these items used in other outfits: Wow, such a similarity with all of these! Same colors, and layering concept. Oh and notice the grey boots making an appearance in ALL of these pictures?! Oh boy. Don't miss the 3rd installment of my best outfits of &

Best of's for 2009 pt.2- skirts

For the second part of this 5 part feature of my best outfits of 2009, I give you the skirt. Yes, it would be simpler to throw on a dress and get on with your life but a skirt is much more complex than that. It requires a mate for it to be paired with and possibly a few accessories like tights and a belt. A little more effort but when you get it right, you're feeling pretty darn great. Here are my "I feel great" moments wearing a skirt: A teal tulip skirt} H&M So many outfits have been created using this skirt. I decided to post the very first time I wore it. A red staple skirt} Vintage via Value Village Every lady needs a short red skirt in their weardrobe. It was actually raining when I was taking this pic, but I know you can't really tell. Getting started skirt}Thirfted via Value Village I had to include this outfit since it's been seen over and over  as part of my old blog header . Time for Tweed

Staticky hair, itchy legs, chapped lips, wind burnt face...yes it's definitely winter. NYC weather is bone chilling cold. I'm not even joking, 5 minutes out there and you're already frozen to the core. This weather does NOT make me want to dress up in any cute outfits or even try and do my hair as I'll be wearing a hat as soon as I step out the door. This dress was perfect though as its super thick tweed. The only poblem was the short sleeves, hence the cardigan. Plain but whatever. I've started gathering items for this nyc headpiece I've mentioned. It looks like I've got a little project to work on before Thursday. I guess this also means that I will keep a spot for headpieces in my   "Best of"  feature , I think this nye one will be in the top 5 so I'll end with that on Friday morning. Best of's for 2009 pt.1- Pants

So I've been thinking of doing a "Best of" (of meaning outfits) to wrap up 2009. Well, apparently, this isn't all that original of an idea as many bloggers have already been posting theirs. So I started thinking of other ways to go about it, like best by month, or best by season, and then the merchandiser in me took over and I decided to give you The Best of by classification (ie: dress, skirt, top, pant). I'm starting out by giving you the hardest item for me to wear without feeling like I've just given up and am just like the rest of them: PANTS. Those who've been following me have heard my rants on pants (haha) before but I think I'm finally giving into the idea that pants CAN be fun too. Here's the proof, in no particular order: Paris anyone? Pants}H&M The perfect pair if highrise skinny cigarette pant. Classy Chloe Pant} Thrifted via Value Village The only thing I remember from this night is having to leave the bar,  falling asleep on the

A good day for casual

I took these pictures using my new handy remote, thanks to my dad's smart thinking this christmas. I still need to get used to it but it sure is alot less stressful than pressing the self-timer, running to my spot, then making sure I'm ready( nipped and tucked) and then smiling all in ten seconds. So after two delayed flights, waiting for the train in New Jersey, then cabbing it to Brooklyn from Penn station because I was too exhausted to take the subway, last night was definitely an early one. The good thing is that I have today off to get all the little things done, like get some food, maybe unpack, and do a little alterations from my new thrifted finds. Nothing too exciting. As I made my way to Trader Joe's, I made a quick stop at Urban Outfitters, which I hadn't been in ages ( I swear). I found what I think is going to be my NYE outfit, just a hint, it involves leopard print. We'll see. I'm still debating on whether I want a crazy headpiece for the night whi

(My sis & I in the room that no one ever sits in) I was starting to feel a little bad about not blogging the past couple of days. I know it was Christmas and all but when I saw that so many of you were still in the habit of posting, I knew I had no excuse. You see, it's a family tradition here to celebrate on Christmas eve. Everyone comes over around 4pm and we start to eat and then drink and then eat some more until someone (*cough, cough Dad)  gives us the o.k. to start opening gifts. That said, all was quiet yesterday (the 25th) and all I did was catch up on season 4 of Dexter, then moved on to single episodes of 30 Rock, and Big Love and catch a few movies. There was no reason to get out of my pj's as no one was coming over and I wasn't planning on going anywhere. Basically, I discovered a little thing called Movies on demand and it was great. So for this post I give you my Christmas Eve outfit, a dress I've worn on this blog before but this time dressed up. A c

A real vacation day

Today was my first day of sleeping in, although that was only until 9am. I've been so crazy busy in the past few days that I've hardly had time to even think of an outfit. I've been wearing my leggings, t-shirt and cardigan so much that my sister has even started mocking me. That said, today I thought I'd make an effort and pull something together. Now, keep in mind that I usually don't pack alot (enough) since I hate having to check my bag at the airport. This time, I did lug a huge suitcase across the border but I swear it barely had anything for me. It was filled with gifts for friends/family, and some clothing I've decided to bring home to my sister. So looking in my guest room closet, I found a few things that I had either inherited from my sister (this dress), or left here from last time I visited (vest & shoes) and even some things that I've acquired in the last few days on my value village hunt (cardigan & scarf). Together it makes for a cozy

Nothing too special to report but I thought I'd post my "traveling" outfit since that's pretty much what I've been living in the past couple of days. I'm a firm believer in comfort when I fly. I pull out all of my comfty clothes, like leggings, drapy cardigans and tanks. I was feeling a little plain so I threw on this tie that I picked up at the Salvation Army right before leaving. I liked the floral print and thought, why not? It adds a little something printed to the mix. I'm currently staying at my cousins house for a couple days and spending time visiting some family that I only get to see about twice a year. Although it can get a little hectic at times, she has two boys, one 4 yrs and the other not even 2, this is the time of year to make all of the rounds and expect a little chaos from my otherwise quiet Brooklyn life. Oh and they've got a bunch of snow here which makes it feel alot more like christmas. Sorry for the lack of posting but I'm a

Cassie's Therapy video diary I've been tagged by Chloe @ Butterfly Cupcakes & Daffodils to take part in Cassie's Therapy video tag. Now, I've never seen this tag before and had no idea who exactly this "Cassie" was and why she needed therapy. So after backtracking to links from other blogs, I found her "Therapy post" above so you know what I'm talking about. Edit: Cassie is a character on the tv shoe Skins . The task: fill in 12 likes, 1 love and 8 hates like Cassie in her therapy video. Below, the bolded things are what you MUST include. Also, please link it back to me, and link it onto 3 other blogs you admire! Abracadabra, Wow! I like boys  who don't know they're cute  and girls who are nice to other girls. I like traveling. I like the sound of kids laughing. I like skimming through a magazine before reading the articles. I like Edemame. I like having the radio on while I get ready in the morning. I thought I'd be brave this morning and take my outfit pictures outdoors. Well, let me tell you 30F weather is COLD!!!!! I barely managed to take 3 decent pictures before grabbing my tripod and running back inside. As I hinted in yesterday's post, I received a lovely little package in the mail from Seychelles shoes . I can't believe I actually have the Blimey oxfords that I've been coveting all season. I feel like such a lucky lady. Also, after work last night I made a quick stop at the Dusty Rose Vintage studio in Williamsburg and found this amazing 1950's printed green dress . It has Joan Holloway written all over it and I knew it would look perfect with my new shoes. Let's just say that today, I feel like a lady. Oh and we also had our little holiday office party and my cupcakes were a hit! After getting numerous suggestions and 2 co-workers mentioning their love for the Babycakes carrot cake cupcakes I decided I should do just that. I decided to go with th

I did not want to have to brave the cold today! Hence, my indoor apt. pictures. Yes, I'm calling myself sophisticated, no bright colors, no crazy prints. Only for today though, I still don't know what tomorrow will bring. I'm very split personality when it comes to outfits, if I'm super casual one day, I'll make an effort to be totally dressed up the next. So case in point, yesterday's outfit of jeans and mocs prompted this outfit fit for a proper office workplace. So accountants, managers, and exec's take note! I did get a very special surprise in the mail today and can't wait to put together my outfit tomorrow! If you're following my tweets you'll know what it is. If your not, it has something to do with this post. Outfit: Blouse} Thrifted via beacon's Closet Skirt}Zara via my sister Cardigan}mac & jac Tights} Uniqlo Boots}Aldo
