I'm pretty proud to say that I've kept up with my New Year's resolution to read one book a month with only one month to go! Yay me. This is probably one of the only things that I've kept up with but it's just about that time to start thinking of new goals for the new year... too early? sorry. This month I picked up A Taxonomy of Barnacles. It's a quirky, witty, fun read that I very much enjoyed. If you look into it online, you'll get some mixed reviews, particularly because the story will sort of remind you of The Royal Tenenbaums. Ok, basically, if Royal had all daughters, this is what you'd get. The story revolves around six sisters, all with names starting with the letter B, which takes some getting used to, living on the Upper East Side with their father Barry Barnacle, his second wife, Bunny, and next door to twins, Billy and Blaine Finch whom are in process of courting the two older sisters. Barry Barnacle decides to get his daughters to compete o...

Lost KING KONG Print May Not Be As Old, Or Rare, As First Believed

Image
Written By: Ken Hulsey Sources: BBC News / Avery Guerra Earlier this week I posted an article about a rare copy of the classic monster movie "King Kong " that was discovered in the wall of a London movie house. The article has been linked on several different websites and referenced on several others. It seems that many a movie buff was more than just a little excited about the possibility of a rare print of "Kong", with possibly 'missing' footage in tact, being found for everyone to enjoy. Alas, I hate to be the one to dash every ones hopes, but the copy of the film that sat in a wall for decades waiting to be unearthed, may not be what was advertised. The print that was discovered is indeed old, and somewhat rare, but further examination has revealed that the film stock is composed of celluloid and not nitrate means that it probably dates back to the 1950s, not the 30s as first reported. If this is indeed true, any hopes of this copy of "King Kong...

WAITING FOR GORGO Comes To DVD

Image
Written By: Ken Hulsey Source: Avery Guerra Way back in 2008 I posted a small article about a short film called "Waiting For Gorgo", which was, at the time in production under the direction of Benjamin Craig for the indie UK studio Cinemagine. Well, it seems that the film, which is a homage to homage to the classic 1961 monster film "Gorgo" that starred Bill Travers and William Sylvester, is finally completed and available on DVD through Amazon.com. Despite what you may be thinking, "Waiting for Gorgo", isn't a monster movie at all, but a comedy about a young woman who discovers a top secret British organization called DMOA that is run by two eccentric old men who believe that one day the island nation will be attacked by some giant monster or possibly aliens. Despite the fact that the two old coots are a little bit senile, one of them actually believes that Gorgo actually did attack Great Britain, their organization actually has a working system in pl...

The Gods Are Set To Take Revenge On RED SONJA

Image
Source: Dynamite Comics The sequel to Red Sonja: Wrath of the Gods arrives in February with Red Sonja: Revenge of the Gods. In this premiere issue, defeat is eating away at the trickster god Loki. He hates being banished to the barbaric, backward lands of Hyboria. He hates the food, the wine, the women and he hates Red Sonja most of all for putting him in the position. He dreams of revenge and putting this backwater land under his heel. Sometimes dreams come true. Written by Luke Lieberman, look for Red Sonja: Revenge of the Gods #1 this coming February! "Loki's bitter defeat at Sonja's hands still tastes fresh, imagine a god reduced to consorting with common mortals," says writer Luke Lieberman. "But Loki is a thinker, he has a plan to regain his former glory and more, all he needs is to unleash the Ragnorok. Sonja thought she was done with the trickster, little did she know his greatest trick is yet to come. And when doomsday is upon them, she must cal...
