Originated as a solely catholic holiday, it later transformed in to an official feast day and has now become a worldly celebration of Ireland's culture. This public holiday of Ireland is celebrated all over the world in countries such as Canada, Great Britain, United States, Australia and New Zealand and more. If one cannot celebrate St. Patricks Day in Ireland but still wants that Irish feel and celebration, Boston is the place to be. America's first St. Patrick's Day celebration was held in Boston in 1737, and the metropolis boasts one of the country's largest parades. The parade begins at the Broadway MBTA station and ends at Andrew Square drawing in an estimated 600,000 people each year.
