Here's my part 2 from last weekends blogger meet up extravanganza! I arranged a little brunch meet up at The Organic Grill on First ave. with Meg , Veronika and Rachel . Little did I know the trains we going to be ridiculous and I ended up being half an hour late! Me! I'm usually NEVER late to be quite honest with you. I try very hard o be on time and even early to everything. Anyways, the girls had time to get a table and some coffee in while they waited for me. Once we finished brunch, which was delicious by the way. I definitely recommend The Organic Grill for vegetarian/vegans looking for a place in the city. We moved on to Brooklyn, where I took the ladies shopping at Beacon's Closet. Just an update from yesterday's outing. As I had mentioned, I had lunch with Nickie , Nikka , and Dusty Rose Vintage . We then headed to the Calvacade in Greenpoint where we enjoyed some beers on their rooftop, in the sun. It was a fabulous day. By then, it was just down to Nickie and I, so we made our way to a BBQ that a friend was having, ended up making the mistake of not eating and without realizing it skipped out on dinner all together in exchange for more beer. And of course we didn't stop there. After leaving the Upper East side to make our way to down to Brooklyn,we made a little pit stop at the Bell House which was mistake number 2, this place has a tendency to suck you in. It's like time just freezes and then all of a sudden it's 4am and the place is closing. Well, the fact that it's so close to home is kind of nice at this point, and the walk is definitely needed. Yoah, Sunday night already? I was having so much fun striking off all the stuff I had on my to-do list! Plus, I'm not done, so the weekend can't be over yet! That's what you get for a gloomy rainy weekend. I think I wasn't as productive as I wanted to be due to alot of napping and catching up on some Amazing Race marathons. I honestly do love that show, maybe i'll elaborate more on that later when they get towards the end. But what I did get done was these two new headbands. They were just a little project of mine that I wanted to try out. Next up I think I'm going to make some more skinny band ones just like these for Springtime weather (if it ever gets here).                                  My Saturday was spent walking around Brooklyn with Nickie and our other friend Bridget, browsing through the flea market which I had no idea went on during the winter, then doing a little bar crawl around our neighborhood. The weather was gorgeous and I was thankful to not have to bundle up from place to place. I even went with knee socks instead of tights, and my poncho instead of a coat. Oh can Spring just get here already? Today I plan on updating my blog shop: Shop Idee's Closet  , with some Spring items and have already reduced the price of the items left for sale. I also want to get some more headbands up in my Etsy so I'll be knitting away until my little fingers can't stand it anymore. First of all, I'll just point out that, yes, I need a fringe trim. I scheduled an appointment for Sunday. When I came across this little sweater vest at Beacon's Closet, I knew I couldn't resist. I mean, as a knitter, I can appreciate a cute fairisle when I see one and these colors are exactly what I'm looking for come Spring. Plus, it had a yellow tag, which means that it was 50% off that day. What I love about taking pictures in my backyard is that I can take my time and even focus on details. You can see the little houses and trees on the print of this vest, pretty sweet, right? Probably something I would've overlooked if I was trying to snap these quickly on the street. Monday, after all of the weekend madness, I got to spend the day with the lovely Christina from Second Skin . I must admit that I was ecstatic when she told me that she was coming to NYC with her hubs to take part in the blogger meetups and just visit this concrete jungle where dreams are made of (are we tired of this song yet? no? ok.) She's one of of those bloggers that you have no doubt that they are as nice in person as they appear on their blogs. I knew right away that we were going to click. Christina's sole request was to spend the day as I would any other. I met up with her and hubs at Angelika Kitchen , one of my Manhattan vegan lunch spots, to start out the day. After eating, and before her hubby left us ladies to our daytripping, he was nice enough to snap up some pics of us. I finally dug myself out of my grey/black rut. I found this lovely ivory ponte dress at Beacon's Closet last weekend and thought that it was just the thing I needed to bring back some (sort of) color in my life. Looking at these pictures you'd think that it was April, or maybe late August? I do wear a heavy coat on top of my outfits before leaving the house. I'm not that crazy. I feel like I have a million things going on right now and am so scared to forget something. On the reading front, I finished my January read: Mercy-Jodi Picoult. As for the next book, I think it'll have to be A thousand Splendid Suns as I already started it a while ago. The problem is that it's hardcover, therefore too big to bust out reading on the train. Maybe i'll swing by the BK library and see if I can find it in paperback version. I do most of my reading on my daily commute to work. It's the only way that i ever finish any books really. I did not want to have to brave the cold today! Hence, my indoor apt. pictures. Yes, I'm calling myself sophisticated, no bright colors, no crazy prints. Only for today though, I still don't know what tomorrow will bring. I'm very split personality when it comes to outfits, if I'm super casual one day, I'll make an effort to be totally dressed up the next. So case in point, yesterday's outfit of jeans and mocs prompted this outfit fit for a proper office workplace. So accountants, managers, and exec's take note! If you've been following this blog, you'll remember back in the summer when I was on the hunt for the perfect floral flowy skirt(posts here & here ). Well, yesterday while browsing through the racks at beacon's and going through their skirts it finally hit me: I've been looking for the wrong skirts. I always had this vision of wearing a longer floral or plaid (sorta) prairie skirt, who am I kidding? I'm only 5'3" (rounded up) and not at all lanky, the type of body that these skirts would look amazing on. Why did this take me so long to figure out? was it yesterday's outfit that made me realize this, or was it the fact that I never found that perfect skirt? In any case, I left beacon's yesterday with one new skirt and am happy to have this new revelation . This particular one i'm wearing today was a thrift store purchase from Ottawa two weeks ago. Today I had the most productive day ever. Let me just clear up that I had the day off and it did not involve sleeping in and staying in my pj's. Mel's To Do List Trader Joe's Laundry Beacon's closet drop off Update Etsy Christmas Shopping Attend: Vegan baking with Babycakes I made it to Trader Joes bright and early before they got crazy busy as the line ups are usually wrapped around the store. It actually took me longer to get there than to pick up all of my items and make it through the cashier. I have a pretty set grocery list for TJ's so I know exactly what I'm looking for and where to find it. I quickly dropped everything at home and then was on my way to listen to a discussion about vegan baking from the owner and chef at Babycakes , Erin McKenna. She brought up some really good advice and tips on what to use as egg, sugar, and flour replacers as her bakery is all vegan, mostly gluten/soy free pastries.
