Une robe recyclable

Image
{A recyclable dress} Ok, first of all you might think I'm weird with this statement but I just want to say I'm a big fan of the "looking down at my shoes" shot. I'm not sure why but I think it makes me look thinner. It's funny right? The things that bloggers come up with. I mean there are a whole slew of poses that bloggers have adopted, even the hand on the hip is one of them , but the looking down just might be my fave. I give you permission to think I'm weird now. Well, it's finally freezing in NYC and you know what? I've realized that I have no winter weather appropriate dresses. I've been wearing a lot of jeans and sweaters lately because of it. Not one of my best looks but whatever it kept me warm. So today I figured i needed to work with what i've got. This dress you'll recognize from my Halloween post. Yup, reduse, reuse, recycle people. I threw on a cardigan, this one being the "new boyfriend" cardigan which I have t...

Rooftop shenanigans

Image
Just a quick long weekend update for you all before I head out to the park to enjoy some shady tree breeze, snacks and more time with friends. I started my weekend with an outdoor movie in the park on Friday night. There was a screening of "Une Femme est une Femme" by Jean Luc Godard. It's one of his movies that I had not yet seen so I was pretty excited to be catching it on the big screen and in the East Village. Turns out that every Friday night Tompkins Square park is showing some classic film so you'll know where to find me on those nights. Saturday I met up with Nickie in Williamsburg as per our usual weekend shenanigans. Got drinks a little too early, met up with more friends, more drinks, then proceeded to make our way to the East Village once again. Our friends have an amazing rooftop with a great view on NY. You'll want to make sure that you check out Nickie' s Weekend Rewind later on today or tomorrow (whenever she's recovered from the weekend) a...

Decently exposed

Image
I pinned back my bangs today. Not because i'm trying to grow them out, but because I thought it would work better with this outfit. Does anyone else do this? Sometimes I think of what I'm wearing and go: "Oh I better put my hair up/curly/straight", all depending on the look i'm going for. I guess if you have short hair you don't need to worry about this silly stuff but I think about it all the time. I'm looking more and more tired in all of my pictures this week. I think it was the daylight savings time that messed it all up. I mentally prepare myself to "look awake" as I walk outside to take my pictures but I'm not fooling anyone. Hopefully next week my body will be adjusted and i'll be all bright eyed again. Lets hope. Just another vintage frock today. This is one that I was talking about yesterday so I tried again last night to make it less summery and I think with the socks and cardigan I succeeded. I rarely wear these shoes because t...

A Day Behind

Image
Yesterday went by so fast that I didn't even have time to take some outfit pictures. So, lucky for you, I recreated it this morning before doing anything else. As to what I did on Saturday, well, it started trying to go to the Moma but then we decided that timing, and it being a long weekend Saturday that it probably wasn't the best time to make this attempt. We walked into Central Park, and then ended at F.A.O Shwarz just in time for a special performance by some piano masters at the floor piano that was made famous in the 1988 movie BIG starring Tom Hanks. You know the one right? Tom Hanks on the piano What you get now. Not sure why I felt compelled to take this picture. Four of the same

I haven't worn my hair straight in a while. I feel like I look different today, maybe? Well another casual layered look today since I'm still in holiday mode even though I've been working these past two days. I think next week is going to be a hard one since everything will be back to its usual schedule. Today I had the pleasure of meeting a fellow blogger, Sara from The Ocean in your bedroom . She's in NYC for NYE so I thought what a great opportunity to meet up and grab a coffee. Oh and not only is she another blogger but she's also from Canada! Hopefully we'll get together again over the weekend and do a little bit of shopping. Since I'm a big fan of remixing my wardrobe, I thought it'd be fun to see these items used in other outfits: Wow, such a similarity with all of these! Same colors, and layering concept. Oh and notice the grey boots making an appearance in ALL of these pictures?! Oh boy. Don't miss the 3rd installment of my best outfits of ...

49th St & Broadway

Image
I had the pleasure of taking my outfit pictures at one of my favorite subway stops in Manhattan. Yes, it's busy and there's a million tourists at all times, but I love the red brick walls that make up 49th St station. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I attended the United Way's Young Leaders Council Red carpet soiree. The event was held at The Renaissance Hotel in Times Square. My co-worker, Lizzie and I had a blast, sipping wine and grooving to the DJ set by Brina Payne. The night was hosted by Katherine Creig from Fox 5 news and recognized young philantropist Beverly Bond, founder of Black Girls Rock. Although we didn't make it to the after party, we made our way back to Brooklyn and found ourselves at The Bell House, a local bar and I got home way past my bedtime. I wore my corset and tulle dress by kensie, paired with glittery gold tights and topped with a cardigan and a fancy sweater guard. The chain/clip sweater guard I bought a...

party pics!

Image
As mentioned in earlier posts, last night I attended the kensie party at Velour nightclub here in NYC. While I was rushed to get all of my work completed by 6pm, change into a party dress and then hail a cab nyc style to the party, I think I was able to make myself look half decent. Here are some pictures I took of some stylish ladies (and myself). (I went with a kensiegirl dress & kensie faux fur vest) (Fellow coworkers) (Nickie from Wild as a Mink  wearing a vintage dress) (Girls from Hpnotiq , the liquor sponsor of the night) (Nickie and I) (Elizabeth, wearing a dress from kensie dresses's line and chinese laundry boots) (The bar staff wearing kensie) (A stylish kensie fan wearing kensie) (Behind the bar kensie video playing on the big screen) Thank you to all who've already entered the kensie giveaway! You still have until Sunday night to enter. Please go here and leave a comment to enter.

A Precious Sunday night

Image
Last night after my day of doing nothing but cleaning and reading magazines, I headed over to Chris'. We ordered in some Indian curry from this new place down the street (which turned out to be yummy) and played some Mario Wii, or is it Mario Party? I'm not sure, we played some type of video games anyhow and ended with a few rounds of Tetris. You can say that I had a very chill weekend and i'm actually fine with that. This outfit is something that I've worn before but never got around to take pictures. It's the perfect hanging out outfit without looking like I'm in my pj's, although that's exactly how I feel. I styled it up here showing a few different options. I'm on my way to the BAM rose cinemas , one of my favorite theatres in Brooklyn, to watch Precious . I'm excited to see what all the hype is about, and to see Mariah Carey as a brunette and fully clothed. Maybe this will be a turning point for her??just maybe??? I've worn this tunic be...

Street lights, big dreams all looking pretty

Image
Calling all New Yorkers and surrounding area residents. I am cordially inviting you to a night of dancing, drinks, fun and fashion! That's right, kensie is having party to promote pretty things and fashionable people!  It's all happening next Wednesday Nov.18th at Velour nightclub. If you'd like to join me please send me an email (melsonieratgmaildotcom) with your name and if you'll be bringing a guest and you'll get on the list. It's as easy as that! *Sorry but only 21 yrs or older can attend. Hope to see you there!

Nude tights

Image
For the record, i'm not wearing plain nude tights, they're actually printed but I couldn't pick up the print with my camera. After trying on 3 different outfits this morning I decided to keep it simple with this drapey jersey dress. The perfect friday lazy dress if you ask me. * I was also hoping that it wouldn't pick up the wrinkledness of the dress but looks like I was unlucky this morning. These are the tights I picked up in both black and nude! I'm heading out to a Haunted Walk tonight, 2 of them actually. I'm looking forward to it as this will be my first experience with these "paranormal" tours. Apparently New York is America's most haunted city so this is a perfect time to take advantage of  it, especially so close to Halloween! I'm going to try and take as many pictures as I can so I'll let you know how it goes! Check out the link if you're interested and would like to know more!
