La main dans les biscuits

Image
As I sit here uploading pictures, my hand is unconsciously dipping into the cookie jar. Yes, the cookies I made the other day that didn't turn out quite right. They're edible, therefore I cannot let them go to waste. Now, must I add that dinner is currently cooking on the stove and that I'm sabotaging my appetite? Oh well, leftovers are always good for next day lunches. (which no one in nyc seems to know) These pants are my "jeggings" I wore the other time and stained my legs black. You remember them? Well I gave them a good wash and its safe to say that they're now dye free on my legs. I guess you always take a gamble when you're buying clothing for a whopping $12.50. Have you ever tried cuffing your leggings? I seem to do this quite often at home so I decided, why not try it with these? I quite like the look and with my booties it brought up my "pants" to just the right length. As you can probably tell, the weather has turned back to it's u...

Black Roses

Image
I just want to give a heads up to the West coast bloggers that are going to be in town for NYFW to brace themselves for snow. We're expecting it to dump on us tonight and for the next couple of days. That said, they were also saying this for last weekend, and well, you all saw the little bit of snow I had for my post on Sunday. This is my take on "winterizing" a Spring dress. All you need is a cardigan, some tights ( I doubled up on mine) and a pair of boots. The more layers, the better it hides the spring like material of the dress. I quite like the purple and black combo. I've been meaning to try to wear more purple in my life, actually, I've been trying to incorporate any color besides navy and grey so this is definitely a new favorite of mine. I'm not sure that I'll get an outfit post in tomorrow, but I do have some other things in store! Grey Resolutions

Image
I'm really liking shades of grey these days. Maybe it's due to the weather? maybe because I have a ton of it in my closet. Anywho, today's outfit needed a little somethin' special so I dug out this crazy beaded bib necklace that i got over the summer at a Charlotte Russe launch. You can read all about it here.  (And yes, that's one more outfit with the red skirt from yesterday's post) I have been lacking on commenting on all of your blogs, chictopia, twitter, etc... I find that I've been running out of time to do everything in one day AND get to bed at a reasonable time. I do have a day job to get to. I will put aside some time to get to it. You lovelies give me my dose of inspiration. Last night I decided what my new years resolutions were going to be. I didn't actually seek out to make resolutions, they just sort of came to me when I thought of things that I wanted to accomplish/change this year. So here they are: 1. Visit 1 museum a week. Friday I...

Party.Break.Party.Break.

Image
That's how these last few days were spent. Going out, then getting a whole day to recuperate, only to do it again the next day. I'm happy that today is a break. I don't have that much to do therefore will probably not even leave the house. I love these days. This is from yesterday, an outfit I wore to do some shopping with Sara from The Ocean in your Bedroom . She was in NYC over the New years holiday so what better way to get acquainted over a little shopping day. She got alot of great stuff, and I on the other hand ended up with alot of spring items, like a striped tank, short sleeve wrap cardigan, oh and some "jeggings". The dress I'm wearing was thrifted at Value Village. The best part about it is that its got pockets! I also liked the fact that I didn't have to hem this one. It was the perfect length for my (short) frame. I'm sorry about not having any close up shots these days but that happens when I'm freezing my behind outside. I snap away ...

Navy on my mind

Image
Today I had the most productive day ever. Let me just clear up that I had the day off and it did not involve sleeping in and staying in my pj's. Mel's To Do List Trader Joe's Laundry Beacon's closet drop off Update Etsy Christmas Shopping Attend: Vegan baking with Babycakes I made it to Trader Joes bright and early before they got crazy busy as the line ups are usually wrapped around the store. It actually took me longer to get there than to pick up all of my items and make it through the cashier. I have a pretty set grocery list for TJ's so I know exactly what I'm looking for and where to find it. I quickly dropped everything at home and then was on my way to listen to a discussion about vegan baking from the owner and chef at Babycakes , Erin McKenna. She brought up some really good advice and tips on what to use as egg, sugar, and flour replacers as her bakery is all vegan, mostly gluten/soy free pastries. I wrote about it on one of my birthday posts here . ...

A Precious Sunday night

Image
Last night after my day of doing nothing but cleaning and reading magazines, I headed over to Chris'. We ordered in some Indian curry from this new place down the street (which turned out to be yummy) and played some Mario Wii, or is it Mario Party? I'm not sure, we played some type of video games anyhow and ended with a few rounds of Tetris. You can say that I had a very chill weekend and i'm actually fine with that. This outfit is something that I've worn before but never got around to take pictures. It's the perfect hanging out outfit without looking like I'm in my pj's, although that's exactly how I feel. I styled it up here showing a few different options. I'm on my way to the BAM rose cinemas , one of my favorite theatres in Brooklyn, to watch Precious . I'm excited to see what all the hype is about, and to see Mariah Carey as a brunette and fully clothed. Maybe this will be a turning point for her??just maybe??? I've worn this tunic be...

Sunday's (not so) best

Image
I would like to point out that this is the reason why I usually don't post on weekends. My outfits consists of slouchy, comfty, relaxed items. I grab whatever I see and pile on pieces until an outfit is created. For today's 60 degree weather in NY, I decided to go with a summer romper, paired with tights and a slouchy cardigan. Keeping with the same neutral colors I felt that it hid the fact that I was going for comfort over style.  All I did today was walk up on 5th Ave here in Park Slope to wander into the shops filled with local designer duds as well as a few vintage stores, ending with Beacon's Closet. Looking at these pictures remind me that its just about that time to get a fringe trim. Good thing I made an appointment for Friday!                                          ...

My life

Image
Mel's (that's me) life update : I've updated my little Etsy shop with two more items. I'm slowly working on a few other items that should be posted by next week. I joined flickr and have started posting my outfit pictures there as well. I'm going to add other pictures on there that don't make it to this blog. So watch for the update. I'll probably start with past trip pictures and so on. You'll get to see me outside of my blog element. A big thank you to Modcloth , Sari especially, for posting one of my pictures on the Modlife blog yesterday. You can check it out here . I'm heading out to Atlantic City on Saturday. Yes, I'm spending Halloween there which is why I've been working hard on my costume. You'll see pictures by Sunday or Monday, depending on how great I time I have. I'm terribly behind on responding to comments and reading all the lovely blogs I follow. So thank you for reading mine and popping by on the regular!(you know ...

I Heart Saturdays

Image
It's official, I'm a horrible Weekend Blogger. You see I'm so diligent in taking pictures Monday through Friday (no pictures this past friday as they did not turn out right) that once the weekend hits, my weekly routine is shot and outfit pictures are only remembered once its too late . Hopefully nobody missed me too much and I'm making it up by posting my Saturday night outfit. Nickie and her posse had planned a night of dancing at this pub here in Park Slope. Well, what we didn't know is that the Yankees game took precedence over a dance party and nobody ended up dancing except for Nickie. Oh well, maybe next weekend. I decided I should try wearing my betsy j heart stockings one more time, even though I got a huge run in them the first time I wore them on my birthday . I proceeded to make a couple more snags/runs in them, then paired them over my coral opaque tights as to slowly ease into this shredded trend that I'm not so familiar with. Hope everyone had a ...

Drowning in Vintage

Image
Yesterday was my Halloween costume shopping with Pamela (from Market Publique ) day. Nickie and I met her in Williamsburg where we proceeded to hit up what seemed like every vintage store possible. Of course we couldn't do them all as Williamsburg is the mecca of vintage shopping but we sure made a dent. Even though I was concentrated on only shopping for my halloween costume, I managed to buy 2 pairs of boots and a skirt (which I bargained down to $10 from $20). Oh and I did find some items for my costume, now I have the tedious task of putting it all together. My outfit consisted of so many layers that I didn't even need a jacket. I was excited that the weather was a crisp 65 degrees and sunny, the perfect Satuday shopping weather if you ask me. My hair was inspired by some of my fave bloggers trying out the Alexander Wang SS09 ( i think?) side braid. Of course my hair isn't as long as say, Delightfully Tacky's so I had to enlist the help of a few clip-in extensions....
