Don't Rain on My Parade

...unless I have a really stylish umbrella! One thing I kind of love about NYC is that when it rains everyone seems to break out the black umbrella it's like part of some kind of New Yorker uniform. Then suddenly in the sea of black you'll catch a glimpse of someone's brightly colored, patterned umbrella and it instantly makes me smile. It's been raining for days in New England with no end in

Comme un garçon

{Like a boy} I'm going to have to keep this short since I'm breaking my: No internet after 8pm Rule. That's right, anytime after 8 is strictly for knitting. I've been catching up on a few projects that I had lined up for some Secret Santa gift exchanges and now I'm on to making things for my Etsy . It's hard work trying to do it all, work, blog, sell, make but it definitely keeps me motivated. This is just a simple outfit that I put together this morning when I heard that it was 20 degrees out. I know it's not as bad as what some of you are experiencing right now, but man, it's cold. I had to bust out the parka today . Yup, I might as well just walk around with a big maple leaf tattooed on my forehead. Funny, searching for that link, I found out that this is the exact same week as last year that I brought it out! What a coinkidink! Here's a remix of these items worn in the past. Keep warm out there! Outfit: top}Tucker for Target jeans}cheap Monday sh...

S'il neige pas

Image
{If it doesn't snow} I think I'm finally getting back into my regular routine of taking outfit pictures in the mornings and hopefully sticking to a regular blogging schedule. I know that once the Holidays hit (as if they haven't already) it'll all be thrown off course again. Oh well, let's just try to get through this week right? I got this dress from Modcloth and was so happy when it arrived! Remember when I said that most of my clothes aren't season appropriate? Well, let's just add this to the pile shall we? I thought pairing it with thick tights and boots would kind of balance it out but I think it'll need to be stored away until the Spring. it's a good thing that I'm going to be up in Canada in a couple of weeks since I can stock up on chunky sweaters, thicker skirts, and possibly a cute   (but warm) coat at Value Village. That is, if I have the time. I love going to VV as a lot of the clothing I find is all made in Canada and super well ma...

Une robe recyclable

Image
{A recyclable dress} Ok, first of all you might think I'm weird with this statement but I just want to say I'm a big fan of the "looking down at my shoes" shot. I'm not sure why but I think it makes me look thinner. It's funny right? The things that bloggers come up with. I mean there are a whole slew of poses that bloggers have adopted, even the hand on the hip is one of them , but the looking down just might be my fave. I give you permission to think I'm weird now. Well, it's finally freezing in NYC and you know what? I've realized that I have no winter weather appropriate dresses. I've been wearing a lot of jeans and sweaters lately because of it. Not one of my best looks but whatever it kept me warm. So today I figured i needed to work with what i've got. This dress you'll recognize from my Halloween post. Yup, reduse, reuse, recycle people. I threw on a cardigan, this one being the "new boyfriend" cardigan which I have t...

Un peu de tout

Image
{ a little bit of everything } I think I finally found the perfect spot for my morning pictures. The lighting first thing in the morning is a tricky thing to get right in pictures. I quite like this background too. So I guess this is my new spot, hope you like it.                    I really am wearing a little bit of everything: My lace top: girly my acid wash shorts: edgy vintage loafers: preppy This pretty much sums up my style. Except for the edgy part, I don't think i'm at all edgy,  I never could pull that off as I much rather color over black. After a very long week, i'm so happy that its Friday. Tonight I'm going to see The Runaways with Nickie and her BF (yes, i'll be the 3rd wheel, but its the story of my life, i've come to accept it). I'm not all that familiar with the girl band or Mrs. Jett herself, as I said, edgy , was never my thing, but I thought why not, it's Friday, and...

Spring remix

Image
This weather is freaking me out. I thought I was prepared for it, but today, not quite. I mean is anyone else ready to go out bare legged? I'm sure not! I am however loving the fact that it's still light out when I get home from work. I haven't done one of my outfit remixes in a while. I honestly just forgot about them! Oops! So here's me trying to bring it back. Here are the other ways I've worn these items in the past: I think doing these sorts of remixes is great as it reminds me how I wore that item before and other styles that I can now wear it. I'm really sorry I haven't been keeping these up but I think i'll start working on a post that showcases some of the outfits that I missed in the last couple of months. In the meantime, here are links to some outfits that I've remixed in the past: Weekend Wear Feeling Thrifty Drowning in Vintage Outfit: Dress}kensiegirl Cardigan}F21 (Heritage) Boots}Vintage Belt}Thrifted Socks}H&M Headband}DIY

A Step Inside

Image
Well, it finally happened. I've been defeated by this nasty weather we've been having. I woke up to snowflakes as big as fists and puddles that would swallow my shoe. Mother Nature 1: Blogger 0.                         You could say that this is the most weather innapropriate outfit I've ever worn. But you know when you have a plan to wear something and then nothing else will do? That's what happened to me this morning. I wanted to wear this outfit on Wednesday but couldn't find my slip to wear under it, so I grabbed a repeat dress instead. So last night when I came home I searched high and low through piles of clothing and finally found it. After that I was determined to wear this Spring forward outfit, there was no question. I actually already have a dozen ideas on how to wear this dress when the weather gets warmer, just a warning. Remember when I was talking about my resolut...

Black Roses

Image
I just want to give a heads up to the West coast bloggers that are going to be in town for NYFW to brace themselves for snow. We're expecting it to dump on us tonight and for the next couple of days. That said, they were also saying this for last weekend, and well, you all saw the little bit of snow I had for my post on Sunday. This is my take on "winterizing" a Spring dress. All you need is a cardigan, some tights ( I doubled up on mine) and a pair of boots. The more layers, the better it hides the spring like material of the dress. I quite like the purple and black combo. I've been meaning to try to wear more purple in my life, actually, I've been trying to incorporate any color besides navy and grey so this is definitely a new favorite of mine. I'm not sure that I'll get an outfit post in tomorrow, but I do have some other things in store! it's a nyc thing

Image
When Nickie posted about her trapper hast, I immedeately remembered that I had one too! I don't wear it all that often but I did get it last year a few months after I moved to nyc. You can find these hats everywhere in the city. You don't even have to venture into a store because vendors are selling them on every street corner. So I was expecting so much snow to yesterday that I was a little dissapointed to see that we only got a few inches. If I go out and check how much of that is still there, i'll probably be extremely dissapointed too. Oh well. I didn't leave my house yesterday as to try and get alot of little projects done, including adding a few more items for sale at Shop Idee's Closet . I wore a fitted sweatshirt and some pleated pants (I just remembered I had them when doing my last post). I was looking to add a scarf to this look when I thought it was time to bust out the hat.  Today i'm heading out to brunch with friends, and then out to Williamsburg...

A Welcome Change

Image
It's so funny when you have no idea what the weather is like until you hear the little ones upstairs leave for school and start hollering about all the snow on the ground. This is what happened to me this morning. No idea of this snowy wonderland right outdide my door until I took a peek to see what all the comotion was about. We've received so little snow here in nyc that's it's kind of a welcome change. It's actually not even that cold today. Everyday I try to make a conscious effort not to wear dark dreary colors. So I'm digging deep in my closets/drawers to pull out anything that's not grey/black/navy. And hopefully come out with a coesive outfit. Turns out that today is a completely thrifted outfit. Actually, even my tights were on sale, what a steal. The bow is from a giveaway that I won from a crafty lady named Christine. She blogs at Tie Me A Bow  , covering everything from outfits, yummy food, her handmade creations etc.. In fact, she's having a...
