Five questions Friday

Image
O.k, so I missed last Friday's feature, did you notice? you did! oops! So sorry about that, I thought since I'd posted a few more things that I'd be able to fool you into forgetting all about it! Here's this weeks round of questions: 1. I saw somewhere that you're 5'2. I'm the same height, but I feel like you making being short look so good! How do you dress to feign height? (Because heels, short skirts, etc...I feel like I've tried every conventional trick in the book, but I'm wondering how YOU do it!) This question is so funny to me! You wouldn't believe how much I struggle to not look like i'm drowning in my clothes! I cut them up, pin them back, hem them sometimes too short etc... I find that if I'm buying something vintage/thrifted it's guaranteed to be too long/big, so I automatically throw it in a "to hem/alter" pile. I try to get to that about once every 3-4 weeks or so. I find that places like Forever 21 are geared ...

1. What made you decide to start your blog? When I moved to NYC last year I wanted a creative outlet to document my time here as well as showcase the diy knitting projects that I was doing. So I thought, why not start a blog? If you go back to my first few posts, you'll realize that they aren't consistent with the format that I have now. I think I did one or two posts then just stopped until picking it up again over the Summer and focusing on my outfits. At that time I had discovered chictopia and was really happy posting daily outfits. I started  posting them on the blog and it turned into what it is now. (I used to document all of our outings, this is from my first weekend in Williamsburg) 2. Where do you hope to take it in the future?  I've mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I want to spend more time being creative by focusing more on knitting, crocheting, and other possible DIY projects. So I really think that this blog will actually go back to it's ...

Five questions Friday

As I'm trying to post these with a similar theme, this weeks questions are focused on personal style. 1. When did you develop your sense of style? How did you dress in high school/as a teen? I never really had that much attachment to clothes growing up. I'd throw on anything my mom had bought for me and that was that. I wore alot of jeans and shorts. I saved the dresses for special occasions, and even those were chosen by mom. In high-school I dressed like a boy. O.k, not that I tried to but I was really into snowboarding so I just really wore whatever was comfortable but always kept it a little edgy/punk/emo. Roxy, Billabong, Volcom, DCShoes, Etnies, all of those brands made their way into my closet. I also discovered Value Village when I was about 15 years old. It must've been 15 because I remember having to take the bus and I got my driver's license when I was 16. I loved to spend hours at that store just going through the racks and finding some pretty amazing stuff....

Five Questions Friday- round 2

Image
I have such a hard time sifting through all the fantastic questions you have! Grrr, it's so hard to not just email you back with my answers right away! I really do hope you all don't mind me taking my time in answering these. Here's this weeks: 1. What is the one pair of shoes you couldn't live without? It's funny but I never thought of myself as a shoe person. Yeah I have a few but I don't really go seeking shoes and then when I find myself not having any cute new shoes to wear I'll go buy 2 or 3 pairs (4 or 5 if thrifting) all at once! If I had to choose one pair it would be my Dexter boots that I found not too long ago. I feel comfortable wearing them and they go will practically anything I own. Although, my grey Jeffrey Campbells are by far the most popular on this blog! 2. How often do you go shopping? I probably shop once a week. I don't really schedule a time for it. I'll randomly pop in a shop on my way home from work or after having lunch wi...

Five questions Friday

I have to start my questions feature with the most popular subject that is my job. Here you go, my coworkers are going to looooove this. 1.Where did you go to school? Design School?  I attended College in Ottawa,ON (my hometown) and enrolled in their Sales & Marketing program. After one year I really wanted to move to Vancouver,BC so I found a similar college in the city that would transfer most of my credits from the first year and had a similar curriculum for their Business Marketing program. No design school followed as I hadn't any thoughts of going into fashion at that time. 2. How did you get into Fashion?/ How you came to work at kensie? One of my first jobs was in retail, and then that sort of stuck for a long time. I'm talking 10 years of retail (no joke). I was looking to get out of retail when an ex-coworker that I had worked with told me that mac & jac/kensie had a head office in Vancouver and might be looking for a customer service rep,...

Resurfacing

I finally dug myself out of my grey/black rut. I found this lovely ivory ponte dress at Beacon's Closet last weekend and thought that it was just the thing I needed to bring back some (sort of) color in my life. Looking at these pictures you'd think that it was April, or maybe late August? I do wear a heavy coat on top of my outfits before leaving the house. I'm not that crazy. I feel like I have a million things going on right now and am so scared to forget something. On the reading front, I finished my January read: Mercy-Jodi Picoult. As for the next book, I think it'll have to be A thousand Splendid Suns as I already started it a while ago. The problem is that it's hardcover, therefore too big to bust out reading on the train. Maybe i'll swing by the BK library and see if I can find it in paperback version. I do most of my reading on my daily commute to work. It's the only way that i ever finish any books really. I'm going to try and post the current...

Ask me anything..well almost

I'm going to put this in a seperate post as to not get it confused with my other silly tight/over the knee sock dilemma I was having today. Here what I asked in my previous post. Feel free to leave your question in this post's comments. I'll gather them all up  wherever you leave them anyways. I've been thinking about doing a Q&A post for a while now but have been hesitating as it seems a little narcissistic. I mean, I already have this blog, that is pretty much all about me already but I decided to heck with it. This is not for my ego, but for my readers. Since I've gotten alot of new followers recently (thanks by the way) you may have some burning questions that may seem silly to email me or something that i've never covered in my post. Oh it's o.k. if I already have covered it and you missed it, i'll still answer it. So ask away about anything, fashion, shopping, lifestyle, hair...etc. anything and I will do my best to answer it. I plan on answeri...

On Second Thought

Image
I needed a splash of color (so I thought) and tried out some reddish tights and then layered some black over the knee socks to tone it down. I thought it was sort of working until I took my outfit pictures and decided to scrap the whole idea. Since i'm so very dedicated to my readers (that's you!) and had extra time this morning due to washing my hair last night (it's a little pouffy today) I ran out and took new pics. What do you think? Was it o.k. the first time? I have issues with my legs being too short to pull off the thigh high sock thing. sigh. I've been thinking about doing a Q&A post for a  while now but have been hesitating as it seems a little narcissistic. I mean, I already have this blog, that is pretty much all about me already but I decided to heck with it. This is not for my ego, but for my readers. Living Doll

Image
This kind of outfit is exactly what my dolls used to wear: A corduroy dress, silk blouse and of course tights. I'm wearing heels today as my flats made me look a little too young (this look is already borderline girlish). Walking to the subway station this morning made me realize why I don't wear heels in NY. I definitely can't walk as fast as I usually would, and I attract more unwanted attention in my neighborhood, which is gross.  So lesson learned, stash the heels in my bag and wear only once at work, and keep to the flats for commuting. **Oh and I'm sure other ladies can relate to this: Now that I'm wearing tights with some of my cotton dresses, there's alot of bunching happening when I walk (the friction between the two fabrics). To stop this from happening, I bought a slip skirt at a thrift store ($2.99) and cut it to make it short enough to wear under most dresses. This has been my saving grace in the fall/winter months to prevent my ...
