{Little Women} Last month I was asked if I'd like to participate in a Blogger Book Reading Club. Since my New Years resolution (from 2010) was to read a book every month anyway, I thought this could be fun! So then began The Pickwick ladies book club . Anyone is welcome to join and can find the reading list on our facebook page . December was my month to chose and of course i wanted to get Little Women in there since it's such a Holiday classic for me. I first read it when I was a little girl but have probably read it over 5 times since then. Now since we're a group of bloggers we don't just discuss the book, nope, we draw inspiration from it to create an outfit! This is my outfit taken from the March sisters since I can imagine that living in the country and having to stomp through snow just to get to the closest market is what they had to go through on a daily basis. Too bad that huge sign above me ruins the whole "vintage time" feel of the picture. Oh well,...

I'm pretty proud to say that I've kept up with my New Year's resolution to read one book a month with only one month to go! Yay me. This is probably one of the only things that I've kept up with but it's just about that time to start thinking of new goals for the new year... too early? sorry. This month I picked up A Taxonomy of Barnacles. It's a quirky, witty, fun read that I very much enjoyed. If you look into it online, you'll get some mixed reviews, particularly because the story will sort of remind you of The Royal Tenenbaums. Ok, basically, if Royal had all daughters, this is what you'd get. The story revolves around six sisters, all with names starting with the letter B, which takes some getting used to, living on the Upper East Side with their father Barry Barnacle, his second wife, Bunny, and next door to twins, Billy and Blaine Finch whom are in process of courting the two older sisters. Barry Barnacle decides to get his daughters to compete o...

I am so tired but I have so many things to blog about this week that I simply cannot be a slacker. I"m already late at posting this but here's my book read for the month of October: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. First of all, whenever I see a great preview for a movie that is originally taken from a novel, I rush out and try to read the book before watching the movie. I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment but I just wouldn't be able to sit through he movie thinking that I'm missing bit s and pieces. Hey, I like to get the WHOLE story! Well, thankfully, the book is such a page turner (and not very long to begin with) that I finished it in  no time and then went out and saw the movie. The books basically gets you right from the beginning and then you can't seem to put it down. The story is so beautifully written and you fall in love with all of the characters, even Ruth who is sometimes, not-so-nice just because of the roles that they have been s...

Livres lus: Septembre

September brought on a few good reads, mostly because I managed to take a trip up to my parent's house where books float through the hands of my Dad, Mom, Sister to Sis-in-law, then me. It might also be the fact that during these trips, I'm travelling for at least a few hours each way and take the opportunity to read instead of listening to music. Wait, maybe people do both, listen to music while reading? Hmm, I don't think I could manage that as I get way into both (seperately). K, I don't know where this is going so let's just get on with what I've read this month: Shanghai Girls by Lisa See: This book did to me as Memoirs of a Geisha did, kind of depressed me but I wanted to keep reading. The difference is that this time I was ready for it. When I read Memoirs, I had to put it down as it brought on such a strong emotion that I didn't quite like. Like I said, I REALLY get into books. This time, I read the story of the two sisters that were once named ...

Livres lus: Août

Another month, another bookl. August was a slow month for reading. I think I was out and about enjoying the last month of summer a little too much to care to beat my 1 book a month goal. I finished  Valley of the Dolls  very early and it was so worth it. I had read it years ago when I was just a little bright eyed early twenty-something girl. I had just moved to Vancouver and my friend leant it to me. Well, I really didn't get too much into it the first time but I thought I'd give it another go when again, another friend leant it to me (must be fate or somethin'). After all it is a cult classic. I'm happy I did because living in New York and rearing about it's younger years when Broadway was booming and tv/movies were just being introduced as new media really is so cool (even if it is fiction). I think any girl can appreciate this one. Here's the story (taken from wikipedia as it's way to late for me to come up with this): The novel begins in New York, 1945,...

Livres lus- Juillet

{ I'll start posting my monthly reads in a seperate post like this at the end of each month so you can keep track of them } This month, despite feeling busy, I somehow managed to read three books. I blame it on the extra time commuting into the city ever since my express N train decided to run local. Here are my July reads: Wonderful Tonight I got this book from Nickie and I have to say it was a pretty good and super quick read. Pattie Boyd, model of the 60's married George Harrison, then when that crumbled, left him for Eric Clapton. She retells her stories of living in Africa, becoming a model, and then having to live through 2 troubled marriages. The Girl's guide to Hunting & Fishing I was always wondering what this book was about since the title is kind of obscure. When I saw it at the Salvation Army for a buck, I said, why not? it's about a girl's journey as a book editor in the big apple.  Apparently, they made a movie, Suburban Girl starring...

Resurfacing

I finally dug myself out of my grey/black rut. I found this lovely ivory ponte dress at Beacon's Closet last weekend and thought that it was just the thing I needed to bring back some (sort of) color in my life. Looking at these pictures you'd think that it was April, or maybe late August? I do wear a heavy coat on top of my outfits before leaving the house. I'm not that crazy. I feel like I have a million things going on right now and am so scared to forget something. On the reading front, I finished my January read: Mercy-Jodi Picoult. As for the next book, I think it'll have to be A thousand Splendid Suns as I already started it a while ago. The problem is that it's hardcover, therefore too big to bust out reading on the train. Maybe i'll swing by the BK library and see if I can find it in paperback version. I do most of my reading on my daily commute to work. It's the only way that i ever finish any books really. I'm going to try and post the current...
