At the beginning of the month when I announced to the (internet) world that I would not buy any new clothing in 2011 I had also mentioned that I'd be down for clothing swaps as to keep my wardrobe fresh and exciting. Well, the lovely Emily from The Daily Fashionista heard my cry for help and offered up some items to exchange temporarily. I boxed up a few items, including some special requests that she had seen me previously wear, and she did the same. When I received my loot I couldn't believe how accurate she got my style. This polka dot blouse is in fact, one of her items. I've been looking for ascot blouses in every Value Village I thrift at and always come out empty handed (with blouses that is). {A blouse with black poka dots} I'm always amazed at how quickly the Holiday season pops up down here in the US. It definitely has something to do with Thanksgiving being so close (and huge)! I swear, I get 2 and half days off just to... spend time with family, hang out with my dear friends! It's pretty great actually. Oh and they even started playing Holiday music on the radio. I think I've mentioned before that i still use a radio alarm clock to wake up in the mornings and I was pleasantly surprised with the selection this week. I never liked Holiday music until about 2 years ago, and now I can just lie in bed listening to it making  myself late for work. And by late, I mean not 15 minutes early. Here's Monday's outfit. I realize one thing missing from my closet is a black pencil skirt. I think I stay away from black a little too much sometimes. I definitely need to invest in some basics so black pencil skirt is going on that list! This outfit is so a hodgepodge of things threwn together. I've ben meaning to wear this blouse for the longest time but just haven't gotten around to it. I absolutely love the side ruffle detail. I've been kniting alot again and finished this hat. I'm in the process of making new headbands too, so let's hop ethat I keep up this productivity to have enough to put up in the shop! I might be jumping the gun a little since I want to keep a few for myself but hey, there's nothing wrong with being a little ambitious! When I was in my teens I was kind of obssessed with butterflies. I know, I know, which girl wasn't. But my love for buterflies, I believe, stemmed from seeing this lady in this movie. Ok, if you don't want to click on the links, I'll tell you, when I saw Drew Barrymore in Mad Love (which came out in 1995), I was madly in love with the dress that she sees in the window of a little store and then Chris O'Donnell goes and buys it for her!? Ah! Swoon. Ok, you're probably asking why I'm taking you down memory lane of the 90's. It all comes back to this top that I saw on Modcloth ! The chiffon, the butterfly print, the ruched arms...it's the closest thing I'll ever get to that amazing dress that has apparently marked me for life. As I stated in my hair post, today was a day off (Martin Luther king day). I wanted to take this day to actually dress down. What a funny concept it is to make an effort to wear jeans. I think we're a rare breed us ladies that love to dress up. At the same time this is what I love about the blogosphere, I know i'm not alone and alot of you that visit my blog is because you feel exactly the same. I love you gals. That said, I wore jeans to tone down the updo that I had going on. You understand right? So there's nothing better to pair with jeans than a lovely blouse and some vintage boots. Fool proof actually. This kind of outfit is exactly what my dolls used to wear: A corduroy dress, silk blouse and of course tights. I'm wearing heels today as my flats made me look a little too young (this look is already borderline girlish). Walking to the subway station this morning made me realize why I don't wear heels in NY. I definitely can't walk as fast as I usually would, and I attract more unwanted attention in my neighborhood, which is gross.  So lesson learned, stash the heels in my bag and wear only once at work, and keep to the flats for commuting. **Oh and I'm sure other ladies can relate to this: Now that I'm wearing tights with some of my cotton dresses, there's alot of bunching happening when I walk (the friction between the two fabrics). To stop this from happening, I bought a slip skirt at a thrift store ($2.99) and cut it to make it short enough to wear under most dresses.
