Don't Rain on My Parade

...unless I have a really stylish umbrella! One thing I kind of love about NYC is that when it rains everyone seems to break out the black umbrella it's like part of some kind of New Yorker uniform. Then suddenly in the sea of black you'll catch a glimpse of someone's brightly colored, patterned umbrella and it instantly makes me smile. It's been raining for days in New England with no end in

Yes, Accessorize!

Image
Yes, Accessorize! By Tammy Ussery You have found your dream prom dress, now what? Now it is time to coordinate what is arguably the most important step of your prom ensemble- The accessories! Fabulous prom dress shops that carry everything from the dresses and accessories to undergarment accessories are ideal for one-stop shopping. Accessorizing your perfect dress with hair, makeup, shoes and accessories is the last step, and arguably the most exciting one! Let the fun begin! One of the most thrilling parts of putting together an ensemble is hair. One basic rule of matching hair to a dress is an up-do for halter and one-shoulder necklines and hair down for strapless and spaghetti strap. Up-do's are generally expected for dresses that include the neck in the design, like halter and one-shoulder necklines, simply because having the hair down can muddle the design and crowd the neck space. The right up-do for you and your dress can vary greatly. You might want a glamorous up-do with a...

Accessories to Create a Unique 'Black' Elegance

Image
Accessories to Create a Unique 'Black' Elegance By Leah Pisay Who says dressing up in black can be boring, a drab, or even unsophisticated? There are a lot of great things that black clothing can do when you wear them properly. For instance, black can certainly flatter your figure and your look. Some people actually look slimmer in black while others look absolutely elegant in it. Black clothing can also be worn anytime of the day; that's unique in the realms of color. With a nice pair of shoes, some good and colorful accessories and the right attitude, your basic black can quickly become not so basic at all. Let's check out some of the ways to dress up in black. For work, simple black clothing can easily be made into a more professional look by, for example, opting to wear a colorful shirt in shades such as yellow, green, red, or blues in a basic black suit. For ladies, a tote in fun shapes and sizes can easily achieve functionality and professionalism. Also try on fab...

Pastel Dreams

Image
Remember when I was talking about wanting every color of pastel in my wardrobe for Fall? Well imagine my delight when I saw this little skirt on the Modcloth website on sale! It's almost as if they were reading my mind.  I've been reading about multicolored nailpolish in a few magazines and finally decided to give it a go. I brought out my most neutral color palette of polishes and just played around with it starting with the lightest color on my thumb and gradually going darker. Once it was done, I realized that I think I should've done it the other way around (darker starting on my thumb). Oh well, live and learn I guess. I still like it and think I'm going to try out different palettes for fall. What do you guys think? Am I crazy? Outfit: Skirt}Modcloth Top}kensie Shoes}Seychelles Ring}India

My Day Off

Image
Even though I had all day to write this post I'm rushing out the door as soon as I hit POST! I had the day off today to recuperate from my weekend in AC. Well it wasn't that crazy but I wanted a day to run my usual weekend errands. Tonight I'm off to Chris's place, where we'll probably end up a few rounds of tetris. We take it very seriously.                                                         Today involved dropping clothes off at Beacon's Closet, picking up some good food at Trader Joe's and uploading a gazillion pics from Saturday night. Oh and I also managed to take a few pics of new Etsy items (to be posted soon) and I...

Double up

Image
I slept in this morning. Like, really slept in. I got up after my radio alarm had been going off for about 45 minutes. This has been happening alot lately. So in order to get myself to work on time I have to take serious measures. One of the things that I've started doing is making up an outfit in my mind so that when I do finally get my butt out of bed I can reach for said pieces and get going. This morning I wanted to be comfortable, well, looking at the pictures I would say that I'm stating the obvious. For my little spin on it, I doubled up on my scarves. One printed, one solid, together I feel like they make this otherwise plain outfit stand out. Too bad the heat in our office is cranked and I'm down one scarf and no cardigan. I feel like each one of these pictures focuses on different parts of my wardrobe: 1/ scarves, 2/booties, 3/hair bun. I didn't plan it out like that but it sort of works. Only 1 1/2 more days until Atlantic city! This will be my first time goi...

All this rain

Image
It's been raining non stop here for 2 days. I'm really hoping that we get some dry time tomorrow and Friday so that I can go back to my usual outdoor outfit pics. But for now, you'll have to make do with these. My outfit consists of a silk skirt that i've had for a while now but seldom wear because I find it a little fancy. I wanted something grey or neutral (not black) and could only find this so I tried to make it work. I downplayed it by adding a printed scarf around the waist then re-belting it with the original skinny belt it came with. Quite a bright idea if you ask me.Paired with a plain white tee (not the band, tee hee) and a denim jacket also makes this look alot more casual. Right? The braids are actually done using my clip-in extensions. I ended up going with the A.Wang side braid in the end but these were fun for the morning at least. Oh and finally a little detail shot of my fave accessories. The silver ring is from mimi & marge, sample sale, a few years...

Overhaul

Image
I have a statement to make that will shock some of you: "I want to wear pants!". Yes, I want to wear high waisted trousers, paperbag waist pants, cropped pleated pants and maybe even throw in a pair of wide leg denim trousers everyday this fall/winter. All summer i've been on a pant boycott but I think this is where it ends! Oh if I had the money to just run to Zara/H&m/Anywhere that sells these things call pants I'd do it tonight. But alas I will have to slowly ease into it, one leg at a time. I'm also dreaming of pastels for Fall, yes, that's right pretty pinks , pale mint greens , and creamy ivory colored blouses, dresses, skirts...whatever I can find. I guess what I'm saying is that I want a wardrobe overhaul!!! Oh why is this happening? Does anyone else ever feel like this? Because its scaring me at how much I want to trade in my wardrobe for something truly different than what I have. Well I cam up with this outfit right before falling asleep. W...

Mixed Prints

Image
O.k, so how perfect is it that this top randomly bought at H&M last Summer matches this kensiegirl dress perfectly? If you haven't noticed I've been trying to find different printed items in my wardrobe that I haven't yet worn together and testing them out. So far I'm liking the results. Oh lets not get started on my hair. I tested out the "wash it at night and let it dry overnight" method. Yeah, it didn't quite work and left my hair kind of stringy looking with a little bit of waves. Since I thought this would save me time this morning, I did not have any choice but to pin it up any which way and head out the door. I included a back facing picture so you can kind of see what is happening back there. This morning I was running around my apartment looking for a necklace. You see, I forgot all of my "everyday" jewelry at Chris's house over the weekend and have been feeling a little bare this week. Well, how excited was I when I saw this  g...
