Robe bleue, souliers bleus

{Blue dress, blue shoes} What a weekend it's been! I was very productive and got my closet in order, was able to drop off some clothing at Beacon's and in doing so, picking up a few things with my store credit! Ahh, new-ish clothes makes me happy! You guessed, it, i'm still not buying any new clothing, only trades for store credit or blog shops with money that comes from selling my own clothing through my {no longer} shop my closet. Sadly, I just don't have the time to photograph and list things anymore so I had to close up shop. The nice thing about Brooklyn, is that there is 3 re-sell places right in my neighborhood { Beacon's Closet , Buffalo Exchange and the newly opened Crossroads trading }. Going through these channels have made my life a whole lot easier. I highly suggest checking them out to see if there's a location near you, they've definitely help me keep my closet under control. Just another reason why I put myself on a shopping ban; I bought...

Lunettes de Soleil

Just an update from yesterday's outing. As I had mentioned, I had lunch with Nickie , Nikka , and Dusty Rose Vintage . We then headed to the Calvacade in Greenpoint where we enjoyed some beers on their rooftop, in the sun. It was a fabulous day. By then, it was just down to Nickie and I, so we made our way to a BBQ that a friend was having, ended up making the mistake of not eating and without realizing it skipped out on dinner all together in exchange for more beer. And of course we didn't stop there. After leaving the Upper East side to make our way to down to Brooklyn,we made a little pit stop at the Bell House which was mistake number 2, this place has a tendency to suck you in. It's like time just freezes and then all of a sudden it's 4am and the place is closing. Well, the fact that it's so close to home is kind of nice at this point, and the walk is definitely needed. Needless to say that today was  spent sleeping, lounging and trying to get some knitting don...

A jean day

Image
Just a quick post to show you what I wore on Friday. It was a jeans and t-shirt kind of day but a dressed it up with a new cardigan and printed scarf. After work I headed out to Babycakes for my fill of cookie & cream sandwishes and brownie cupcakes...all vegan of course! Good thing this place isn't anywhere near Brooklyn or else I'd be in big trouble. Today I'm off to attempt to find a skating rink. Maybe all this Olympic talk has got me inspired? I'm just happy that the sun is finally shining! Outfit: Cardigan}Heritage 1981 from F21 Jeans}Cheap Monday Scarf}Vintage via Value Village Boots}Vintage Belt}Vintage

Back in Time

Image
After a very busy week, I finally caught up on some sleep and woke up refreshed and ready for Friday. I even had time to take two sets of pictures, have breakfast and coffee, and still manage to get to work on time.Don't let these pictures deceive you, even though the sun was shining it was cold and windy for my little morning photoshoot. I decided to wear this drop waist tweed dress that I picked up a few months ago at Beacon's Closet in park Slope. It was brand new with tags for $10. How could I not? That is why I love Beacon's, they don't overprice their items no matter how new or what brand they might be. The dress itself is a little more "preppy" than my usual so I played it up with my navy tights and brown booties. The cardigan was necessary since the dress is sleveless. My outerwear look consists of my french terry jacket that I've had forever. It's the perfect comfty jacket and not too hot for train commutes. The cloche hat is my newest cheap p...

My life

Image
Mel's (that's me) life update : I've updated my little Etsy shop with two more items. I'm slowly working on a few other items that should be posted by next week. I joined flickr and have started posting my outfit pictures there as well. I'm going to add other pictures on there that don't make it to this blog. So watch for the update. I'll probably start with past trip pictures and so on. You'll get to see me outside of my blog element. A big thank you to Modcloth , Sari especially, for posting one of my pictures on the Modlife blog yesterday. You can check it out here . I'm heading out to Atlantic City on Saturday. Yes, I'm spending Halloween there which is why I've been working hard on my costume. You'll see pictures by Sunday or Monday, depending on how great I time I have. I'm terribly behind on responding to comments and reading all the lovely blogs I follow. So thank you for reading mine and popping by on the regular!(you know ...

A Little Coco

Image
Happy Monday everyone! haha, o.k, I know Mondays aren't usually happy but how else do I start a Monday post? For those of you wondering, the Haunted Ghost Walk I mentioned on Friday was excellent! My favorite part was hearing the erie stories and standing in front of the houses where it all happened. If you want to hear more go check out Nickie's new blog: Ghouls Night Out . She documented the walk and tells you more about the stories we heard. If you're into the paranormal you should become a follower too, she plans on having more stories and guest bloggers about the paranormal. You know, if you're into that sort of stuff. I'm wearing the black version of the tights I wore last Friday. They're definitely a direct chanel knockoff so I thought of going all out Coco and keeping to a neutral color palette today. After I took these pictures I added a black headband and cameo ring as accessories, which by this time I was already running late for work and could not tak...

Tuck & Roll

Title options for this post: Where's Winter? Summer in October Pajama Party Bye Bye Fall, Hello Summer I love Pants How Many Pictures is too Many? etc... Since I'm overwhelming you with pictures today I'm going to keep this short. In a continued effort to add more pants to my wardrobe I ventured into H&M yesterday and found this light weight chambray pants on sale for $15! Since the weather in NYC is expected to hit 72 degrees I thought I'd at least get one wear before stashing them away until Spring rolls around. Wait who am i kidding, I'm going to try and extend the wear out of these for as long as I can get away with. Thanks everyone for your opinions/advice on my last post about hair. I think I'm going to just keep it this medium brown for now, but my hairdresser had mentioned something about a "gloss" that would remove the reddish tint to it (that i'm not particularly fond of). Hopefully I'll get around to doing that in the next few we...

Idee goes Wild (as a Mink)

Image
Oh my, Fall has definitely arrived in NYC! It's gotten considerably colder over the past few days and this week's high is not even near the 60's! Time to break out the layers, coats, hats and mitts. Yes, I love this time of year. I've been busy knitting up a storm and will have some new knitted things up in my Etsy shop this week. I think I might try to update it every 2 weeks, which to me, is totally manageable. As much as I love Fall, there's someone who loves it more than me. My friend, and fellow blogger Nickie who blogs at:  Wild as a Mink  is full on ready for this season. Today I took style inspiration from a look that she masters. The short dirndl skirt, paired with a casual top and of course, accessorized with a chain necklace. Kind of what she did here , and a summer version of it here . I mention Nickie alot in my posts but honestly, we spend so much time together that its hard not to! Its really nice to have a friend that understands the "blogging w...

80 degrees & overcast

Image
I don't have that much to talk about today. I've been busy the last few nights completing a few little projects. I think you might be seeing one very soon, like in the next day or so. Stay tuned. This outfit was my comfty, can't think too hard as to what to put together today. I started with the printed tank than thought about layering on a cardigan only to hear that it was 80 degrees and humid (what?? I thought we were past that crazy weather??!) so I grabbed a lighter-weight pinstripe grey shirt instead. I threw the boots on because they were calling for rain...and well, it is September isn't it? Officially Fall. Outfit: Skirt}Kensie Top}Forever 21 Shirt}Forever 21 Belt}vintage
