What to wear...to prom

It's about that time of year again when all of the younger ladies (younger than myself) get to dress up and get their hairs did and their nails done and head out to prom!
I was asked to come up with a prom post and so I decided to get my research on and let me tell you, it isn't pretty out there! If I could give one word of advice to you girls, don't go the traditional prom dress store route! It's scary and unoriginal and you'll never wear the dress again. I speak from experience. I don't know why I decided to wear a light pink strapless dress complete with tiara for my prom, but I did, really. It was kind of a joke because no one expected me to and I wore some vans sandals underneath instead of heels.
Anyways, my time has past and I cannot correct the decisions I've made, but you, young ones, you can!

So here's my take on prom dresses.

Classy, vintage, feminine. Aranell looks stunning in this pale blue frock. The subtle lace details is just enough and imagine with a ivory corsage, you'd think you stepped out of an Echantment under the sea prom, in a good way.

No joke, this is exactly what I wanted to wear to my prom. I had it planned in my mind but unfortunately an 18 year old doesn't have the means to just whip up a dress made up in their heads. Nikki's look is so fun and daring, it's perfect for the prom and after party. Notice the little gloves, the perfect accessory!

I found this lovely lady on chictopia. The color of her dress definitely compliments her skin tone and looks great with the black accessory. I love how she kept her hair simple and side swept which makes the whole look un-fussy and clean.

Oh boy, how much do I love this dress? The black pump, the red lips and the buttercream gown? You can add some long opera gloves to this and be super Audrey Hepburn or just keep it simple like Zooey either way, you cannot go wrong with this length and silhouette.

For those that aren't into ruffles and frilly things, sleek and short can definitely be the way to go! You may recognize this lady as Nickie has popped up on my blog one numerous occasions. She actually designed this dress (its what she does) and actually, Vanessa Husgens was just seen wearing this same dress (different color) to an awards ceremony.

Now that I've shown you a few of my favorites, here are a few shops that I think you might want to browse through in order to find that special dress, without breaking the bank!

Strike it Rich, Modcloth

Beachland Ballroom, Modcloth

I hope this helped in giving you ideas as to what to be looking out for. Any questions, feel free to ask, I'll do my best. I really am a little envious. I remember prom being a great big party and being able to get all dressed up was pretty awesome. I guess just have fun and be yourself and wear what you want!
